Dealing with Change

Leaves colour change. Chris Lawton

Something my Grandmother told me was that there are two things in life that are certain: taxes and dealing with change. Change is one thing, however dealing with huge shifts in society is quite another. This having been said, we must remember that our Grandparents and Great-grandparents lived through one and sometimes two world wars, a depression, an oppressive government, a young democracy, typewriters, libraries, switchboards, cell phones and an explosion of technology, e books and social media.

In this moment of time we are having to deal with massive shifts such as social distancing, moves to home schooling, emigrating, not emigrating (both go with saying goodbye), working from home and talking about serious topics around the dinner table such as global warming and extinction.  Human beings are essentially social beings and as such a shift to isolation is perhaps not sustainable.  During such massive social shifts, we need to have moments of grounding, where we do not feel the world consistently moving. Slow down. Soak up the sun each morning, savour your cup of tea, hug your family, enjoy religious gatherings, spend time thinking about nature or spend time in nature, pray and exercise. Embrace the impermanence and pleasures of each moment.
